    Diseño

    Otus 1.4/55

    The furthest corners

Even as a child Werner van Steen used to spend time in the dark room with his father, who was an enthusiastic hobby photographer. And as a teenager, Werner, who meanwhile had become a passionate mountain climber, always had a small camera with him to document his climbing adventures. In his mid-20s he said goodbye to extreme climbing and began to devote himself completely to photography.  His most important insight during this phase of his life was that to take good pictures, you need time. “It’s simply not a good idea to visit 25 places in 3 weeks,” he says. “I noticed that very quickly and had to change my entire way of traveling.” Since then he has planned his excursions around his photography and tries to spend as much time as possible in each place he visits. For his photo series of the ...

    Up to the top

Everything had already been planned for Renan Ozturk’s vacation over Christmas 2015: sun, beach and some chilling out. But then he got a call from three young men in Great Britain who wanted to do something really different before starting their university studies: instead of getting drunk like many of their peers, they had another plan for how to test their limits: they wanted to cross Iceland unassisted from its northern to its southern tip. And they wanted to do it in December, Iceland’s coldest time of the year.Such hopelessly extreme experiences are just the type of thing that Renan, a professional climber, photographer and filmmaker, seeks out for his work. Extreme cold is his normal working temperature. For these conditions, Renan will happily travel to Nepal or other far-off ...

Tilt-Shift Adapters and the ZEISS Otus lenses - A great addition to your camera bag

The main purpose of the ZEISS Otus lenses is admittedly for high-resolution stills and video, I like to do things differently. This is why I spent a few weeks in France testing them, and I was especially interested in seeing how well they would perform with long exposures, or when they are shifted, tilted, and of course how sharp they are wide open. Using the ZEISS Otus lenses and the HCam Master TS adapter on my Sony a7RII is the most exciting experience I've had with gear and artistically speaking in a very long time.Thibault RolandThe purpose of this article is to share some of the images I shot with these lenses and some of my impressions. ...

The most unforgettable day in one’s life

Mike Colón loves math, the regularities in the numbers. Chess is his favorite game. Where the average person might still be trying to figure out the original Rubik’s cube with 3x3x3 boxes, Colón has already solved the 10x10x10. So it was no surprise when young Mike decided to study electrical engineering in college. But there was something else about math – the visual side of it. “I like things to be in order, especially my photographs,” says the Californian. So when Mike was 20 and still in college, he started creating order in photographs.  Architectural photography would have been the most logical field for him to enter. Instead, he took a surprisingly different path and became a wedding photographer. “I’m an adrenaline junkie and can really let the adrenaline run free during the stress ...

    ZEISS Otus in Focus

These last few years have been a very special imaging journey. Camera and lens technology has advanced greatly while I've been presented with some unprecedented shooting opportunities around the globe. The clear focus for much of my motion and still work as of late has been to create the highest possible quality image while maintaining a sense of artistry to the frame. That concept is pretty much what attracted me to the first ZEISS Otus lens. Now that the Otus line-up has expanded to three focal lengths I thought I'd share a few thoughts and images from the ZEISS Otus 1.4/28, Otus 1.4/55, and Otus 1.4/85 lenses as they are three of the most extraordinary lenses I've used in some time. ...
